De Droomfabriek 2025

Bringing dreams to life, again

Back to the factory.

For De Droomfabriek’s 2025 edition, we returned with De Chinezen to create an opening sequence that would grow with the programme’s new studio: bolder, more mature and connected to its surroundings.

This time, we took the name quite literally. What happens inside a dream factory? That became the starting point for a journey through a place where wishes arrive, pick up their ingredients and take shape. A small story that could introduce the much bigger stories about to unfold in the programme.

Creating a signature look

We did not have to look far for the factory’s personality. Working with the De Droomfabriek team, we borrowed textures and recognisable elements from the studio itself, including the famous purple couch. Familiar details became building blocks for an imagined world.

That link mattered. An opening sequence should feel like the beginning of the show it belongs to. In 30 seconds, we needed to establish the factory, introduce its character and show how a dream is selected, refined and brought to life. Plenty to fit into a small window, with the studio’s identity holding it together.

Every dream starts small. Here, it arrives as a little ball and travels through the factory, collecting the ingredients that shape and refine it. Once ready, it joins the other dreams selected for the episode.

That simple journey gave the animation a clear thread. Each part of the factory has a role in the story, turning an abstract idea into something the audience can follow. The fun is in the machinery; the meaning is in what comes out of it.

Original

We developed the route through storyboards and design frames, working out how each part of the factory would lead into the next. From there, the environments, transitions and animation could grow around the same idea.

The pace had to move, but the story still had to land. A dream is picked, polished and given its final shape before joining the collection that starts the episode. That balance between a clear idea and a playful execution is what we wanted the opening to bring to the show.
